2 killed in plane crash near Boulder City Airport
Two people were killed Friday afternoon when a small, single-engine jet crashed just west of Boulder City Airport, authorities said. According to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor, a Czech-made Aero Vodochody L39 jet crashed for unknown reasons about a half mile from the airport.

Former constable facing burglary trial commits suicide, officials say
Larry Markotay, a former chief constable in Boulder City, was found dead in a hotel room in Henderson after apparently shooting himself amidst a trial on burglary and other charges, officials said.

Hoover Dam bypass bridge wins engineering award
The $240 million bridge spanning the Hoover Dam has garnered one of the nation's top civil engineering awards. Officials say Monday that the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge won the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement award last week from the American Society of Civil Engineers. The 1,900-foot-long bridge built by the Federal Highway Administration is part of a four-lane bypass that reroutes traffic around the dam. Construction began in 2005, and the bridge officially opened in 2010.
